Grolsch introduced new cans with thermosensitive Cool meter

31 July 2009 | By Popsop Team

Grolsch has introduced the new ‘Cool meter’ on their cans in the Netherlands, using a recently developed Thermochromic ink. This temperature sensitive ink, which has been developed in partnership with Rexam, indicates when the beer inside is cold enough to drink.

The ink, which begins to change colour at 11°C, turns blue when the beer has reached the ideal drinking temperature (between 6° – 8° C). The colour of the ink changes back to the original colour of white when the beer becomes warmer.

The new ‘Cool meter’ will be available on all Grolsch 330ml cans in the Netherlands from this summer on.

Grolsch is the first brand in The Netherlands to use the new generation of Thermochromic ink on a large scale. Previoulsy Miller Coors introduced in 2008 thermolabels as well as thermosensitive cans.

This launch is a part of the massive campaign Grolsch Cool, which started this May. You can watch Grolsch Cooling Tips submitted by consumers as a part of the ‘film contest’.
