Davidoff’s The Griffin’s Is 25 Years Old
3 November 2009 | By Anna Rudenko
The Oettinger Davidoff Group presented a number of new cigar products at last month’s TFWA World Exhibition. The list of fresh item included a special 25th anniversary limited edition from The Griffin’s smoking brand.
It started 25 years ago. Bernard Grobet, the owner of The Griffin’s Club in Geneva, decided to have his own exclusive cigars, which would be produced under his club’s name. On the first stage of his “tobacco” project the cigars were made just for him in the Dominican Republic and were meant to be smoked only at his small club, but over some time his guests liked the brown sticks so much that wanted to have them for their own use at home. So, soon the brand was on sale in all Swiss tobacconists and from 1989 in the USA.
The business began to develop rapidly and soon Grobet engaged the Davidoff of Geneva organization in Stamford, and three years later the brand was acquired by the Oettinger Davidoff Group in Basel.
In 2009 the Griffin’s marks its 25th anniversary and decided to present a limited edition product (there are only 3,500 containers worldwide) to remind his dear smokers of the brand’s anniversary. The new product is called the Special XXV Edition.
The gorgeous white ceramic containers, specially made for the date, have 25 individually packed cigars. Each of the cigars has cellophane covers to preserve the unique aromas for the customer. The containers go with the imprint of the brand’s trademark griffin.
