The film premieres in the US theatres in November and a capsule collection by the film costume designer Jacqueline Durran with a twist to 19th century Russia hits the stores a month earlier, in October, says WWD. Banana Republic produced the collection in partnership with Focus Features.
“It’s a very different take on Anna Karenina,” Banana Republic’s creative director and executive vice president of design Simon Kneen said. “Costume designer Jacqueline Durran said her brief was using a bit more Fifties-influence of Dior’s New Look. ”
The collection features faux fur on collars, hats and coats fall in style of Romantic Russian Imperialism, and richly-textured fabrics are influenced by Dior. Durran said that curating and styling a capsule collection for Banana Republic was “a once in a lifetime experience”. Knightley in the film wears piles of pearls and crystal jewelry reinterpreted by Banana Republic.
“I was given the chance to apply my passion for period styles to a collection that translates to fashion today.” she added.
Prices for the collection items range from $39.50 for a blouse to $325 for a coat. Jewelry and accessories range in price from $29.50 for jewelry to $250 for a handbag. In fall, Banana Republic will roll out an advertising campaign that leverages images from the film in stores.
