To show why ‘and’ is always better than ‘or,’ Coke Zero has released a new video spot featuring actor Ken Jeong who demonstrates the advantages of ‘and’ and draws a parallel between real Coke taste and zero calories.
In the spot, Jeong, who starred in ‘The Hangover’ and ‘Community,’ is asked to choose between two films in the theatre but suddenly gets inspired by his can of Coke Zero. Saying that he hates ‘or,’ the actor starts dancing in the street to his rendition of the song ‘War’ (What Is It Good For?) substituting the word ‘or’ for ‘war.’ ‘Enjoy Everything’ says the tagline.
Created by Translation out of New York City, the spot started airing on July 1 on the BET channel, during the 2012 BET Music Awards. Coca-Cola was the presenting sponsor of the competition’s Viewers’ Choice Award.
With the new commercial, Coke Zero continues its expanding promotions. This year the brand has already supported NCAA March Madness and the Hollywood heavyweight ‘Battleship.’ The diet soda brand also partnered with MOFILM to launch a Short Film Competition for emerging film makers in June. This big Independence Day weekend, Coke Zero launches the Coke Zero400 in Daytona.
“Ken Jeong is a refreshing, rising star, much like the role Coke Zero plays in our expansive portfolio of low and no-calorie beverages,” said Katie Bayne, President and General Manager, Sparkling Beverages, Coca-Cola North America. “Coke Zero exists to fulfill people’s thirst for great tasting refreshment while keeping calories in-check. Staying true to that promise has made it one of our most popular brands.”
