The Doritos tortilla chips brand (owned by PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division) and Microsoft offer to British gamers a chance to win an Xbox 360 gaming console and Guitar Hero World Tour kit.
The marketing campaign to support this activity was created by AMV BBDO. It includes an on-pack and online promotion. To get into the competiton consumers must enter a promotional code at the Doritos website to get access to the Guitar Hero-inspired game. In this game users will need to «out-rock» Alan — the main character of the campaign.
The original rock song for the campaign was composed by Robin McAuley, the lead singer of Survivor.
Another component of the campign is a special widget for Facebook Connect developed by Unruly Media. The social part of the project also includes an activity on MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, Twitter and Spotify.
