Chinese Photographer Di Liu Wins Lacoste’s Elysee Prize

The world renowned brand Lacoste in partnership with Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, announced a prize to celebrate young and promising photographers at the exhibition dubbed ‘reGeneration 2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today’ that took place at the Swiss photography museum. Out of 80 photographers, the jury of the Lacoste Elysee prize comittee selected 12 nominants from different countries. Among them there were:  Ueli Alder (Switzerland), Benjamin Beker (Serbia), Jen Davis (United States), Di Liu (China), Camila Rodrigo Graña (Peru),  Kalle Kataila (Finland), Geoffrey H. Short (New Zealand), Tereza Vlcková (Czech Republic) and others.

In 2010, LACOSTE unveiled the name of its iconic polo shirt, L.12.12. The 12 nominees of the contest were commissioned to capture and «hide» the codes of the shirt in their works. Each participant was granted a scholarship of CHF 3,000 and had 3 months to create 3 photographs.

The results of their work are now displayed at LACOSTE ELYSEE PRIZE exhibition at the Galleria Carla Sozzani (Milan, Italy, 6 November 2010 – 9 January 2011) as well as at the traveling art exchibition reGeneration2 — Tomorrow’s Photographers Today.

The jury that consisted of Lacoste creative professionals such as Felipe Oliveira Baptista (Creative Director at LACOSTE, Tom Watt, art director of ArtReview) as well as famous photographers.

Finally, on December 03, at Art Basel Miami, one of the biggest events for photographers, the contest jury announced the name of the winner of Lacoste’s Elysee Prize. It went to Di Liu, a 25-year-old photographer from China. «My work is about the conflicting relationship between nature and human society, which is created by the phenomenal rate of Chinese urban development,» said Liu.
