Greenpeace Kicks off a Campaign to Save Barrier Reef Great

Greenpeace has launched a new campaign dubbed Save the Reef to raise awareness of the dangers of the coal mining in Australia. The environmental organization, known for its large-scale initiatives aimed to sparkle the debates around non-ethical actions of global and local companies, now starts one of its biggest environmental battles in Australia. For the initiative, the organization has teamed up with the award-winning filmmaker, Daniel Bird, who shot an animated “Coal World” web film dedicated to spreading the word about the issue.

The 2-minute retro-styled film, which can be watched on the dedicated website, unveils the “titanic plans” of coal mining companies and their «billionaire owners,» who want to make maximum profit of the Australian nature without thinking of the region’s future. Greenpeace is calling people to learn more about the true cost of coal and take actions against this aggressive and reckless expansion of the coal industry in the country. Nearly 36 thousand people have already joined the campaign by signing the petition to Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke. They can also learn more about the major players and decision makers in the coal business in Australia as well as see how the coal industry expansion will affect the country.

The problem is, few are aware of it. ‘Welcome to Coal World’ is the animation every Australian must watch. This creative masterpiece manages the perfect balance of entertainment and education. It could also mean the world of difference for our national treasure, the Great Barrier Reef, which is under threat from an unprecedented expansion of coal mining and exports,” says a Greenpeace spokesperson about the film.
