It’s that time of year again here in the UK. Our TV screens are being hit with a blizzard of yuletide advertising. The retailers in particular vie for bragging rights as to who has the best ‘Christmas campaign’. This time around, Waitrose and John Lewis particularly struck me. For international readers, Waitrose is the chain of supermarkets of the John Lewis Partnership, which also has a chain of department stores called, you guessed it, ‘John Lewis’.

Heineken teamed up with LA-based retail store Union LA and fashion designer Mark McNairy to create a new stunning product as part of the ongoing creative “Heineken 100” project. Together they have created a new  kelly green colorway for McNairy’s classic saddle shoe as part of the program, which mission is to champion “Men of the World,” visionaries and tastemakers.

It’s nearly impossible to create a better beer formula, but creative minds can offer new approaches to take the beer drinking process to the next level. As part of its Ideas Brewery project, HEINEKEN is challenging innovators from all around the globe to think and offer some new draught beer experiences. It is the second Open Innovation Challenge within the project (in April, when the Ideas Brewery was founded, the company called beer fans to create the innovative packaging for beer), and the beer maker wants contestants to use all their talent and technological solutions from other fields, the entertainment and gaming industries to name a few, to develop a truly stunning experience.

Heineken demonstrates how the beer can improve the settings. The iconic beer brand, which impressed the audience with its hilarious ad films ‘The Entrance’ and ‘The Date,’ developed by Wieden & Kennedy, now extends its Heineken Legend storyline with a 1:30 spot, created by TBWA/Neboko Amsterdam. In the new spot, in which one may find some similarities with Stella Artois’ ‘Apartomatic’ advert, the interiors of a dirty, gloomy, almost empty and bar is changed dramatically as Heineken beer is poured into a glass.

Heineken USA, the world’s leading international brewer, and the Tribeca Film Institute announced their partnership to establish and launch the Heineken Affinity Award. The award, which aims to empower and recognize a working generation of African American filmmakers and encourage them to continue to craft stories that share their experiences and visions, will launch during this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. Heineken USA will host a private launch event on April 27th to raise awareness about the program. The winner of the Heineken Affinity Award, a rising African-American filmmaker (age 21 and over) will be honored with a $20,000 cash award and year round project support and professional development from the Tribeca Film Institute.
