To continue a series of recycling-oriented projects, which include the famous 111 Navy Chair and the recently presented ‘Give It Back’ racks, Coca-Cola collaborated with a range of apparel designers on creating a collection of T-shirts, made of recycled PET bottles, as part of the Coca-Cola rPET Program. For the line, launched just in time for the Earth Month, the company and Base Control, the Japanese casual wear brand, teamed up with Stussy, BEAMS, XLARGE, SILAS, JOURNAL STANDARD, LUKER by NEIGHBORHOOD, Beauty & Youth and BASESTATION, as www.hypebeast.com reports.

TreeHugger, the leading media outlet dedicated to covering news on “the people, ideas, projects, and memes that are pushing green into the mainstream,” is presenting the winners of its third annual Best of Green Awards. The team behind the project looked though numerous examples of doing good to nature and selected over one hundred winners in eight major categories, who are being announced during this week (April 4—8). TreeHugger also invited audience to partake in determining their favourites—over 50 nominees got the second annual Best of Green 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards based on people’s choice.

P&G Future Friendly, the National Geographic Society, and Promethean announced Walker Elementary School of Springdale, Arkansas, as the winner of the Find Your Footprint national conservation education contest. As one of six finalists, Walker Elementary received the highest number of public votes for their video entry, ‘Helping the World and Saving Our Future,’ and will be presented with the grand prize valued at $36,000. More than 34,000 votes were cast during the four-week public voting period to choose the winner.

The Coca-Cola Company is taking an unusual step by asking U.S. retailers to give back the shelves that hold Coca-Cola products. Coca-Cola is developing a family of 100 percent recyclable merchandise display racks for use in grocery and convenience stores in the U.S. The first GIVE IT BACK ® racks are free-standing units made of easily recyclable corrugated cardboard and designed to communicate sustainability to shoppers.

Tree-planting movement is already joined by a number of brands including Avon, Timberland, Finlandia Vodka, IKEA, Odwalla and many more. The idea of providing consumers an opportunity to give back to nature while buying something natural was recently adopted by another brand, Coca-Cola’s Honest Tea, which partnered with the National Forest Foundation to kick off its Bag to Tree reforest campaign across the USA.

IKEA, the biggest furniture retailer in the world, has released 2010 Sustainability Report covering the period between September 1, 2009  and August 31, 2010 and outlining the success the company has attained in tackling social and environmental issues. Moreover, the report comprises description of the goals set by IKEA for 2015 pertaining to every stage of the product life.
