Anti-Engagement Rings: new wave of feminism

kolco_miz

Everybody heard about the tradition to present the bride a ring on an engagement in order to enter into a marriage. However, on the wave of growing feminism there is a new trend that allows the girl to show the world that she does not belong to anyone except herself — anti-engagement rings.

Anti-wedding (anti-engagement) rings look just like engagement; the only difference is the small size, since wearing such an ornament is absolutely necessary on the little finger.

And one more little nuance — if the engagement ring is traditionally given to the bride by the groom, then the anti-wedding ring can be given to you by yourself, without forgetting to show off to girlfriends in Instagram with a publication with a hashtag #chooseyourself (choose yourself).

The author of such an unusual and popular among the young girls novelty is the American company Fred & Far. And judging from their publications on the official account, the main idea of the trend is self-love, which is glorified under every post.

The official website of Fred & Far says that the purpose of the novelty is to realize the power that gives a woman love for herself. “By the beginning of 2015 I had passed everything: education, career, marriage, mortgage, motherhood. And with each new event, my obligations to others grew, while connection with me myself was lost. What made me happy? Who am I without all these labels? And then I decided to put a new ring on my new finger. (…) I can sincerely state that my life has changed,» says Melody, one of the company founders.

In the network, the #chooseyourself tag has more than 12,000 publications. The nature of the comments is ambiguous: some say that this is nothing more than a new trick of feminists, others who have gained a reason to pamper themselves with a new thing and claim in the Instagram about their freedom and independence run to the shops for ringlets, and there are those who really imbued with the idea of the Fred & Far company’s message for their consumers.

The trend did not shy away from celebrities. Miss World 2011 Teresa Klang (Instagram — @teresascanlan) under the publication with the newly acquired ring wrote a whole ode about how important and necessary to respect and love yourself.
