On June 2, the Eastman Kodak Company announced the new environment-friendly initiative that allows U.S. customers to get rid of electronics products they no longer use.
Consumers are welcome to trade in used gadgets from any brand and receive cash. Any printers, digital cameras, digital video cameras and digital picture frames, as well as camera accessories such as lenses and flashes are accepted.
Consumers can go the Kodak Trade-in web-site, register and gauge demand for their old products. If the trade-in is accepted, people will receive a check in addition to a discount offer from the online Kodak Store. If resale of a product is impossible, consumers would be advised of responsible recycling options. The program is launched not by Kodak directly. Instead, the agreement with SMASH Direct, a provider of online trade-in programs was signed.
According to Kodak, from 2002 the company has reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 49%, closing in on its goal for a 50% reduction by the end of 2012. Last summer Kodak introduced a new ‘sustainability’ logo and a ‘green’ web-site.
