The L’Oréal Group set the goal of reducing CO2 emissions at its industrial sites by 50% between 2005 and 2015. This is a part of its sustainable development policy. Due to an innovative technical solution designed and implemented by EDF Optimal Solutions, the Active Cosmetics Production (ACP) factory in Vichy is now making this goal a reality. Yesterday the implementation of the new equipment took place in Vichy.

The L’Oreal-owned brand Garnier announces an exclusive partnership with TerraCycle, one of the fastest growing green companies specializing in making consumer products from post-consumer materials. Millions of pieces of waste are expected to be collected by Garnier globally for the purposes of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. Through the sponsorship of worldwide Personal Care and Beauty Brigade (individuals or groups who sign up to participate), personal care and beauty product packaging will be collected and shipped to a TerraCycle facility.

Five exceptional women scientists, one from each continent, received the 2011 L’OréalUNESCO For Women in Science Awards at a ceremony on March 3 at UNESCO Headquarters. The day before, on March 2, 15 women post-doctoral researchers—three from each continent—were presented with the UNESCO- L’Oréal International Fellowships for Women in Science.

Hairdressers have always offered a professional service: they cut hair, as well as style it and make it more attractive. A hairdresser often plays a role that informs and educates clients about social issues. L’Oréal Corporate Foundation and UNESCO combined their forces in 2005 to promote awareness among the global hairdressing community about the prevention of HIV. They initiated a training module that is now part of the hairdressers’ curriculum in L’Oréal Professional Products’ training centres throughout the world.
