This is the first sector-specific project of such kind and it will try to raise attention to the impacts of climate change and lead the push toward more sustainable solutions.
«As an industry facing serious and widely publicised social and environmental challenges, the fashion and textile industry is uniquely positioned to launch a sectoral initiative under the umbrella of the UN Global Compact,» said Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. «We are very excited about this effort and look forward to collaborating with NICE and its partners.»
The initiative includes a strong coalition between the fashion industry and UN represented by the network organization Danish Fashion Institute with its Nordic partners. UN will make it possible for the organizations to move towards a more sustainable future.
The new UN Global Compact and NICE Fashion Code will launch on 3 May 2012 in Copenhagen at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, the world’s largest summit on sustainability in fashion held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
Within the project, a platform will be developed to unite small and medium-sized fashion companies across borders globally to help tackle the challenges that fashion industry and planet faces. Fashion has always had a great impact on the society. Leading experts and leaders of international fashion companies will be engaged in the process of searching of new sustainable solutions and implementing it within the industry.
