The massive storm Sandy left the New York along with many parts of the eastern United States devastated these days. IKEA launches an ambitious effort dubbed People & Planet Positive aimed at making the world’s energy consumption as sustainable as possible by 2020. The new strategy outlined by the brand in the recently released People&Planet Positive plan. The goal of the new effort is to make the company energy independent and help people across the globe to live affordable and sustainable life thanks to IKEA’s products. The company has also released an inspiring 3-minute video called “Your home + our planet = our home” to tell about its commitment in a more visual way.

YouTube has introduced its newest tool, Campaigns, for non-profits, which helps create online initiatives aimed at raising awareness and increasing the number of views or subscribers, and track the progress of the initiative. The new feature was launched as part of the YouTube Nonprofit Program, and helps see in a “thermometer mode” how many people have viewed the campaign (in percents).

There are many ways to support a good cause with the public help. Brands help by spreading awareness about the cause, encouraging fans to donate money to some non-profit, doubling the donation by adding as much as has already been collected, or donating money for likes or comments. The last is the approach selected by Ralph Lauren for its new initiative related to the company’s Pink Pony Fund. The fashion brand will be giving $1 to the Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation for every comment made on the brand’s Tumblr page.

Skype is taking its “Skype in the Classroom” initiative further by introducing more online lessons, based on partnerships with international organizations from various fields to educate kids around the globe on important issues. As part of celebrating World Teacher’s Day last Friday, the VoIP service launched several new classes by NASA and British Council—to join in, users are just asked to click of the class plus click on the “Sign up to take part” button.
