According to Racked, the French footwear designer, well-known for his red-sole women’s shoes, started to produce men’s footwear after a a French woman asked him to make her a pair of shoes for her very large feet. The designer created the size 13 1/2 shoes for her but “she didn’t end up buying them. Instead, he passed them along to a friend who gave them to her husband”. That was the beginning.

The interior of the new store features six skylights with mirrors from Park Avenue Armoury, diamond-panel leather walls embroidered with shoe patterns, and a piece of the High Line train tracks are overwhelming visitors from over the entrance. The shoe and accessories collections in the new boutique are the largest in the U.S. Consumers can find a wide range of shoes here as well as accessories including a good selection of bags, backpacks, iPad cases and more.  The similar concept stores are to appear in L.A. and London before the end of the year.

The store has its own zest— the tattoo parlor, where customers with tattoos can have photos taken of their ink to be embroidered onto their shoes. Those who don’t have anything printed on their skin can choose a tattoo designed by Louboutin.

«Tattoo is a modern language today, like a family crest. And this really fits the city of New York,» said Christian Louboutin.

This summer the established designer held a personal exhibition at Design Museum London.
