The page now has 50,054,995 likes and Coca-Cola is trying to find “simple ways to make the world a happier place” in a quest.

Using an app on Coca-Cola’s Facebook Page, fans can support the idea of spreading happiness. Registered fans will participate in the initiative by influencing the ideas submitted. Coca-Cola will enable people to become more socially active and collaborate to develop ideas that help spread happiness around the world.

The long-term project will finish in 2013 with the embodiment of the ideas and could result in a a social application or something else that can motivate Facebook community to spread happiness around the world.

«Coca-Cola understands the value of communicating directly with its most ardent supporters in an authentic way that helps make the world more open and connected,» said Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer, Facebook. «This new program is the next step in fan culture and we are glad to support Coca-Cola in this effort.»

In the next few weeks, Coca-Cola will announce further details about the selection of participants, timelines and concepts of the project.

The Coca-Cola Facebook Fan Page was created by two fans of the brand—Dusty Sorg and Michael Jedrzejewski, not by the company’s marketing team. It happened in August 2008, and today the Coca-Cola Facebook Page is the most ‘liked’ and followed branded page on Facebook.
