The iconic youth-centric footwear brand Converse has teamed up with the fashion label Maison Martin Margiela to create a new collection of shoes that put two universes of the brands against each other, with colour. The Chuck Taylor All Star and the Jack Purcell sneaker styles were used in this collaboration to manifest the power of creativity and personal freedom.
The shoes in the new collection were hand-painted in white, the signature color for Maison Martin Margiela. The paint covers the whole shoe, its canvas, eyelets, laces and soles, marking the dominance of the high-end fashion label over the vibrant and multi-colored youth culture icon—at the first stage. Then, as the shoes are worn, the paint naturally cracks and sheds, making the original colors beneath the white paint visible. “The more the sneakers are worn, the more their personality and color is revealed,” the brand says.
The shoes were premiered on September 11 at a special Converse launch event at the Swiss Institute during New York Fashion Week. The collection is available at Margiela stores starting September 12, and will launch globally on September 20 at select Converse First String retailer stores. The suggested retail price is $200.
