Although about 90% of Americans already eat bananas regularly, Dole wants all American citizens to purchase bananas every day. The year-long initiative is a part of Dole’s long-time goal of increasing the public’s nutritional health through greater consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Dole already run Go Bananas campaigns in 2009 and 2010 and it was successful. Last year, Dole challenged Americans to eat bananas to loose weight.

The new campaign will offer consumers new recipes, promotions and partnerships with 366 fun ways to enjoy the fruit in 2012.

Starting from January 1, 366 Ways to Go Bananas in 2012 offers new ways to enjoy a banana every day of the year. Banana fans can receive banana-friendly suggestions following Dole Bananas on Twitter (the 366-specific Twitter hashtag is #Go366) and Facebook.

The suggestions include such unexpected ideas as polishing your leather shoes with a banana peel on January 5 or celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday by eating his favorite sandwich, peanut butter and banana on January 8.

On March 18, users are advised to treat their post-St. Patrick’s Day hangover with a banana, nature’s Vitamin B6-rich hangover cure.

Dole’s Go Bananas Every Day initiative encompasses a dedicated microsite, traditional and digital advertising, sticker program, public relations, social media, and blogger partnerships. In addition, Dole will visit select cities throughout the year to meet with food bloggers, registered dieticians, retailers, and the media to all benefits of America’s most popular fruit.
