Facebook is trying to make more money from its users. Recently, the social platform has announced the roll out of Apps Center that would offer both free and paid apps. Now, it has started testing a paying system, Facebook Highlight, that lets users highlight or promote their posts.

Now, users in New Zealand (the test is being conducted there) can pay a small fee to make their post more visible to friends, family and colleagues. According to Facebook, the goal is to see if users are interested in paying to flag up their information.
Normally, Facebook’s prioritization algorithm emphasizes posts from users’ closest Facebook friends, or items from other friends in their broader social graph that have generated a significant number of comments or likes. Facebook Highlight aims to help users balance this algorithm allowing the paid posts to stay on news feeds longer for more people to see it.
«We’re constantly testing new features across the site,» said a Facebook spokesperson in an interview to BBC. «This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.»
The test service asks users for feedback. Comments on the tests suggest the highest price being charged is $2 while average price is 40 to 90 cents. Users can pay via credit card or PayPal. It’s not disclosed when the test will end and whether in will be running in other countries.
