Google+ Hangouts are now “shoppable”: presented by Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg, the first fashion designer who used Google Glass to film the last year’s New York Fashion Week, this year has hosted a first-ever shoppable hangout on Google+. The virtual event, massively promoted with the #ShopTheHangout hashtag, was held on October 3.

During the hangout, Diane von Furstenberg presented her latest fall collection to the livechat participants from all across the globe. The fashion diva revealed her style insights and attitudes towards the profession and industry and also shared moments from her own path to success. Consumers could watch the fashion icon talking and at same time view the shoppable range of DVF’s shortlists of fall fashion picks in the right column, next to the chat video (the teaser above shows how the technology works). Diane presented the garments in the hangout with a pinch of elegant passion—she shared suggestion on what might be the perfect occasion to wear each of the pieces and what accessories should go with it.

There were five women (their physical locations ranged from the Netherlands to Hong Kong) who joined the hangout live and were asking Diane questions about her career and style. They had been selected from the entrants who’d submitted their questions beforehand. Others were invited to watch, get inspired and engage through clicking on the suggested items on sale. Google does not provide any statistics on the effort, but the reach can be rated by looking at the numbers of views—there are now 2.3 million views of the teaser spot on YouTube, and at least 740 people watched the broadcast live.

There will be a number of such hangouts on Google+. Launched with Diane von Furstenberg, the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the series will continue with virtual meetings featuring other CFDA members including Rebecca Minkoff, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag & Bone. The next hangout, slated for October 10, will see Rebecca Minkoff discussing her favorite holiday styles. Google also says that the viewers of this hangout will get “exclusive access to see and shop from the Rebecca Minkoff holiday collection and get first-hand styling tips from the designer herself.”
