In an effort to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day, Google joins Women for Women International in course of ‘Join me on the Bridge’ campaign. The campaign is aimed at celebrating the women’s achievements and represents series of the events taking places on the bridges in different parts of the world.
Altogether, about 300 bridge events are to take place in 50 countries of the world. What makes the event notable is that for the first time in the world’s history the celebration of women will take place in Kabul, Afghanistan as well as in African countries. The most crowded celebrations are expected to take place in Brooklyn Bridge (New York), the Millennium Bridge (London) and the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco).
100 years after the foundation of movement in support for women, a lot of them still face problems like the lack of professional skills and education, financial insecurity and low income. According to the statistics presented in Google video posted below, «women perform 2/3 of the world’s work and produce half of the world’s food, but earn just 10% of the income and own 1% of the property», which means the problem is still here and is actual for all the countries of the world, not only the developing ones.

By the way, Google encourages those willing to join the celebration to donate to the organizations supporting underprivileged women in developing countries.
