Gucci has announced a new Sustainable Soles Fall collection that features eco-friendly men’s and women’s footwear designed by Frida Giannini, Gucci’s creative director.

The collection includes Marola Green ballerina flats for her and California Green sneakers for him, both made from bio-plastic, which is a biodegradable material produced from compost.

The ballerina flats feature cut out details and the GG logo motif on the front of the foot. The shoe comes in a variety of different hues: blush, taupe, black and combination of black and white, says Luxury Insider.

The men’s sneakers are available in low- and high-top versions and feature the bio-rubber soles and an upper in pebbled vegetable-tanned calfskin. Rhodium-plated metal detailing and «biologically certified strings» complete the design of the shoe. The Sustainable Soles collection will be available online and at selected Gucci boutiques worldwide starting end of June.

“This new project conveys the house’s mission to interpret in a responsible way the modern consumer’s desire for sustainable fashion products, all the while maintaining the balance between the timeless values of style and utmost quality with an ever-growing green vision,” says a press release.

The Sustainable Soles collection comes right after Gucci and eywear maker Safilo unveiled a sustainable eywear prototype. The shades frame is made of ‘liquid wood,’ which means wood fibers from sustainably managed forests and is also biodegradable.
