The retailer has announced the launch of its sustainable Spring collection for both the red carpet and everyday life. With the Conscious initiative, H&M wants to increase the use of organic cotton and other more sustainable materials. Last year’s Conscious Fall collection was dedicated to folklore.

To create its new Exclusive Conscious collection of red-carpet looks, H&M has used sustainable materials such as organic cotton and hemp and recycled polyester. The collection features several masterpieces. One of them is a Pleated Mini Dress made of organic cotton in green color. Another is a Photo Print Dress decorated with kaleidoscope colors complemented with a jacket in a recycled polyester blend. The Ultimate Red Carpet evening dress made of creamy white organic cotton and silk bouclé at the top is available in a limited edition of only 1,000 pieces.
The collection features dresses and accessories that fit the red-carpet style and some celebrities have already worn the dresses on public, though the collection has not been launched yet. For example, Amanda Seyfried wore the blue tuxedo blazer and shorts at a London premiere, while Oscar nominee Viola Davis put on the pink sleeveless top and skirt to visit a Vanity Fair event. The Exclusive Conscious collection will be available from April 12 in around 100 stores H&M worldwide. The selected looks can be purchased online.
The casual apparel Conscious collection features items for men, women and kids and span to other brand’s lines including Divided, Women, Men and Kids. All pieces are made of either 100% organic cotton or of 100% recycled polyester or cotton. The preppy and stylish collections are completed with accessories.
“Spring fashion at H&M is just perfect after a long and dark winter,” says H&M’s Head of Design, Ann-Sofie Johansson, “with a light and optimistic color palette of shades of white, pretty pastels and brights. Try wearing separates in new and unexpected color and print combinations, such as an apple green vest with a pink zip-up blouson jacket, or florals like a printed T-shirt dress with an acid green polkadot-cardigan. Try mixing transparent pieces with heavy knits like this great spring cable-knit top.”
