IBM Published the Smarter Buildings Survey

One of the most innovative brands of the world, IBM researched American offices to create the Smarter Buildings Survey. In March IBM created a web-site City Forward about improvement of life in 55 big cities. The Smarter Buildings Survey focuses on American offices problems.

The reputable survey proves that US office buildings do not keep up with quick-growing automation and technologies, which leads to lost productivity and added costs. According to the survey, American workers are looking forward for an opportunity to remake their offices into greener environments.

IBM asked respondents nationwide about the office buildings in which they work. Issues ranged from office building automation and security to elevator reliability and conservation. Only 33% of respondents rated their office buildings «somewhat high,» «very high» or «extremely high» in terms of environmental responsibility. And 65% said they would participate in the redesign of the workspace in their office buildings to make them environment friendly.

IBM states that by 2025, buildings will use more energy than any other category of ‘consumer.’ And already today, in the USA, they represent 70% of energy use. It makes buildings a leading energy user and, accordingly a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions.

The survey can be downloaded in PDF on the IBM web-site.
