Kimberly-Clark Unveils Sustainability 2015 Goals

On June 7, Kimberly-Clark announced its Sustainability 2015 goals, that engages company’s global businesses and brands. Sustainability 2015 is built on a framework of People, Planet and Products.

People sector goals include: zero workplace fatalities; socially focused programs in all K-C communities; and 100% compliance to K-C social standards for contract manufacturers and top-tier suppliers. As for Planet there are such goals as 25% reduction in water use and maintain quality of discharge; 100% certified fiber; 5% absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as zero manufacturing waste to landfill. Product sector aims to touch 250 million new consumers; reach 25% of 2015 net sales from environmentally innovative products; and reduce packaging environmental impact by 20%.

The announcement was made from the Corporate Eco Forum (CEF) annual meeting in Washington, D.C., an invitation-only membership organization for Fortune 500 companies with a serious commitment to sustainability as a strategic business issue.

For the first time, K-C environmental improvement goals were set with a five-year time horizon in 1994 (VISION 2000 program), and the company has been raising the bar on the same activities every five years.

Among other global brands having recently touched the theme were Coca-Cola that set up a new division in North America to oversee the company’s global sustainability vision, strategies, and goals for 2020 as well as Procter&Gamble with its sustainability vision 2020 unveiled in September, 2010.
