LG Presents the Smart Manager Fridge

LG, one of the top 20 Greenpeace’s Greenest Brands 2011, has unveiled its Smart Manager fridge at an electronics show in Las Vegas. The wonder fridge is called «your own Nigella Lawson» and can help you do your shopping, turn on the oven and even keep you on diet.

The LG Smart Manager fridge hits the UK market this year at an estimated £2,000. Featuring a large LCD touchscreen and camera it has an internet connection which allows it to download recipes.

Users of the Smart fridge will always know what they have in it. They can record food items as they are placed in the fridge by simply scanning individual barcodes or a shopping receipt with a scanner on the fridge door.  A voice recognition technology allows users make the process of managing the fridge contents even easier. The fridge’s computer ‘remembers’ its contents and automatically adds food to a user’s online shopping account when stocks are running low.

Moreover, the fridge can be customized in accordance with each family member’s needs. It recognizes special dietary requirements, age, gender and BMI. It also compiles shopping lists for users based on their favorite foods and suggests recipes based on the ingredients inside.

Due to the wireless connection technology, the fridge can switch on the oven to the correct temperature and set a timer, while the screen on the door tells the cook exactly what to do.

The built-in camera makes the fridge accessible from a mobile phone, including sell-by dates of foods, so users can go shopping without a standard shopping list.

A technology that is taken from LG air conditioners can chill a bottle of wine in eight minutes and a beer can in five. It also prevents ice crystals forming.

At the presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show, Dr. Scott On of LG said: «This transforms the appliance into a food management system.»
