Yayoi Kusama is known for her polka-dot bright artwork. She will have a personal exhibition at the Tate Modern in London later this year supported by the fashion house. In honor of Louis Vuitton’s support, Kusama will create an installation for LV’s New Bond Street Maison gallery.

Louis Vuitton has launched a dedicated web site where visitors can dive deep into her story by watching her timeline video as well as an interview with Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton artistic director. There are no images of the upcoming collection available so far.

Born in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture as the fourth child in a rich and conservative family, Kusama has been fighting her mental illness since she was a child. She “experienced hallucinations and severe obsessive thoughts since childhood, often of a suicidal nature. She claims that as a small child she suffered severe physical abuse by her mother,” says Wikipedia.

The fashion house has already collaborated with graphic artists. Between 2001 and 2006, Marc Jacobs co-worked with renowned visual artist, Takashi Murakami. Together they designed a series of products inspired by Murakami’s artwork. LV has also created ‘Art for Babies‘ book.

Other collaboration included partnerships with artists Richard Prince and Stephen Sprouse that created for LV lines inspired on their retrospective designs.
