MTV Is to Launch a New Platform for Artists and Fans

MTV is rolling out a new platform for musicians dubbed Artists.MTV soon. The web site will give a new opportunity for musicians to promote themselves, while fans get access to lots of tunes and music videos and other artists’ related information in one place.

According to the company, this is a “pro-artist initiative” that’s “letting artists take control of their MTV presence.”

To date, the MTV website features 10,000 automatically generated artists’ pages providing users with information, videos, news, and biographies of artists, reports Techcrunch. The new initiative will give musicians an opportunity to share what they want with their fans, as well as make money selling tracks, albums or tickets to their concerts. Tip jars option will allow fans to donate to their favorite musicians. The platform is also designed to collect content from artists’ social networking accounts.

Making money will be possible due to MTV’s partnership with music service Topspin. Both sides will share the revenue but “MTV says artists will see the majority of the profit”.

As part of the new initiative, the so called Full Frontal program will launch. Within this program fans, artists, producers, and managers will choose one artist per month who will be supported by MTV with a free promotion.

Artists.MTV is slated to launch “artists only” private beta in May, while a fan beta will roll out later this spring.
