Pantene Establishes the National Donate Your Hair Day

P&G’s Pantene has teamed up with Seventeen Magazine to celebrate the first-ever National Donate Your Hair Day on April 27.  Starting this year, the day will be encouraging more people to cut and donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths annually.

Participating in the Pantene Beautiful Lengths people can grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatments. The wigs are then distributed by American Cancer Society through their nationwide network of wig banks for free.

On March 22, P&G already hosted a hair donation event in support of the program. More than 120 P&G employees, their family and friends and local community members donated their hair to the program and gathered at the P&G Corporate Headquarters to mark this event.

Since its launch in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received more than 311,000 hair donations from men, women, and children and provided cancer patients with more than 18,000 wigs. The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths can be found online.

On April 27, Pantene and Seventeen will host an event at the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. Additionally, salons nationwide will be hosting their own events and offering discounted or free haircuts to those donating on this day. Participants can demonstrate their new haircuts by tweeting at @seventeenmag using the #17donateyourhair hashtag. Seventeen magazine will raffle off one ticket to the NYC event. The April issue of the magazine shares with readers tricks for a great cut.

Earlier this year, Pantene announced its 11 athletes brand ambassadors to roll out its Olympics ad campaign.
