Yesterday, Nike celebrated the eighth year of the Nike Women’s Marathon, an initiative to raise funds and awareness for people suffering from leukemia & lymphoma. More than 20,000 women raced together dressed in Nike sportswear through the streets of San Francisco.
Nike is known for its ‘passion for running’. One of the brand’s most famous projects called The Global Ekiden Relay is about running across the planet.
Before the Marathon launched women were challenged to become a member of a special Nike Women’s Marathon Runway Crew. In the end 8 most stylish ladies were chosen to race together with official Nike’s Runway Crew members that included two fashion bloggers, a stylist, a photograph and a trainer.
Nike Women’s Marathon has been planned “with a woman in mind” as said on the Nike’s site. The highlights included official finisher necklace designed by Tiffany & Co., 100% recycled Nike Dri-fit finisher T-shirt in women’s sizes, lavish three-day interactive Expotique in Union Square, breathtaking course views from the start in Union Square to the finish along the Pacific Ocean, on-course support and entertainment as well as post-race celebration at the finish line at The Great Highway including food, music and more.
Nike also invited everybody to appear on the streets in their most stylish Nike outfit on October 14, when the company was building the runway. The initiative included a contest on Facebook for ladies to tell the stories why they run.
Runners could enter as either an individual or as part of a group at the entry fees of $130 for the half Marathon and $150 for full Marathon.
