Nike Made Football Kits for the World Cup Teams from Recycled Bottles

Nike presented its new national football team kits, partly made of recycled materials, in London. According to the sportswear brand, each outfit will be crafted from recycled plastic bottles. The brand used containers were delivered from Japanese and Taiwanese cities, and then melted them down to produce the yarn for fabric.

«We are equipping athletes with newly-designed uniforms that not only look great and deliver performance benefits, but are also made with recycled materials,» noted Nike Brand president Charlie Denson. The brand-new kits by Nike will be worn by teams of South Korea, Australia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Serbia, Slovenia, Portugal and the US.

The new sport collection is produced from Nike Dri-Fit fabric. It makes it easier for sweat to come outside of the fabric and is 15% lighter than materials which were used before. The air-flow is increased as well due to the improved ventilation zones, which now have up to two hundred little laser-cut holes. Moreover, the manufacturing process saves raw materials better than it was before and reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to making fabric from virgin polyester.
