Porsche Design Group Is to Build a Condo with a Car Elevator

Porsche Design Group has teamed up with Miami-based developer Gil Dezer to build a $560 million Jetsonesque condo tower in Sunny Isles Miami Beach. The luxurious condominium complex will be the world’s first one with elevators that will take residents directly to their apartments while they are sitting in their cars.

Once the resident switches off the engine, a robotic arm will scoop up the car and put it into the elevator with glass walls which will allow residents to enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the ocean though not for a long time—the ride will be high-speeded and expected to last 45 to 90 seconds. The same robotic arm will park the car near the resident’s his front door, says Miami Herald.

The cylindrical building named Porsche Design Tower will be erected on 2.2 acres of land at 18555 Collins Avenue. It will have 132 units on 57 floors. Smaller units will be allocated two parking spaces and larger ones will have four, with 284 robotic parking spaces in total. Residents will be able to see their cars from their living rooms. Units will range from 3,800 to 9,500 square feet and could cost up to $9 million.

Buildings with car elevators are the latest trend of the Miami’s car fanatics’ passion for designer garages.

According to Gil Dezer, president of Dezer Properties this will be the first and last such condo in South Florida. “We want to keep this really exclusive and not have this become a McDonald’s kind of style. The tower is going to change the skyline of Miami Beach,” Dezer said. “This is something Floridians should be proud to have in their state.”

Porsche Design is known for its collaboration with different luxury brands. On of the last includes the Johnny Walker Blue Label Private Bar.
