Soon after launching its young designers contest in collaboration with MTV, Swatch is kicking off another creative project, dedicated to aspiring talents in the areas of “illustrative art works, art projects with graphic influences, animations and book art objects.” Swatch Young Illustrators Award is encouraging all emerging creatives to take part in the contest (arranged for the second time) for a chance to receive a money award of €6,000, get publication and illustration agency contracts and be invited to design a limited-edition Swatch Watch.
Those, who want to take part in the competition, are invited to upload their works between June 1 and October 22. The contest participation is not free—to be fully registered, the entrants are required to pay the initial fee of €30 or $48 for administration purposes, but it is really worth it, as the creations of the contestants will be later viewed and rated by international professionals and each of the registered users will have a personal consultant to correspond throughout the competition process. The winners, determined by a panel of the industry experts (leading art directors, experts and editors of graphic and design magazines), are to be announced in November.
The names of semi-finalists as well as their artistic practices will appear on the www.illustrative.de before the festive award ceremony to be arranged during the Illustrative festival in Berlin. Those, who will not be chosen as winners in one of the categories, will still have a chance to “discuss possible offers for illustration and publication contracts” with leading studios and agencies of the world. The short-listed works will be on display at the “Illustrative” show in Berlin and will also be featured at future international exhibitions.
The jury of experts of last year’s Swatch Young Illustrators Award selected 30 shortlisted artists, and this year the number of winners and runner-ups is expected to be the same.
