Bloom has been working with Symington Family Estates, the world’s leading quality port producer, on a brand redesign for Cockburn’s ahead of its global relaunch in Autumn 2011.
Cockburn’s was founded in 1815 by Robert Cockburn, a soldier who helped defeat Napoleon’s armies in the Peninsular Wars. The Symington Family acquired the brand in 2010 bringing it back to family ownership and back to its roots in the Douro vineyards.

Bloom was appointed in late 2010 to handle the packaging redesign following a strategic pitch. The creative objective was to bring back the quality and distinctive character that made Cockburn’s such a huge success during the 1970’s and 80’s. Edward Hayes, Senior Planner at Bloom, says, “We wanted to create a bottle and label that balances traditional port cues and Cockburn’s significant heritage with a personality that appeals to today’s port drinkers.”
Bloom worked closely with the Symington family to identify a design that would revive this classic brand’s fortunes. Symington’s Marketing Director Henri Sizaret said, “Bloom, with their considerable experience in reviving classic icons, was the ideal partner for this important task.”
The Cockburn’s range includes Cockburn’s Special Reserve, Late Bottle Vintage, 10 and 20 Year Old Tawny, Quinta dos Canais, Vintage Port and Ruby, Tawny and White.
