Google announces its new U.S. Doodle 4 Google competition for K-12 students. The company is inviting kids from all across the country to create their art pieces under the “My Best Day Ever…” theme. The winning doodle will get featured on the Google homepage for one day, and the young artist, who created it, will get a nice prize—a $30,000 college scholarship plus a $50,000 technology grant for his or her school.

Through the competition, which is now in its 6th year in the USA, the company is encouraging young Dalís and Rembrandts to unleash their imagination in the way they like most of all—via painting and drawing. Google invites students to go creative and do not limit themselves to regular activities—something completely unconventional like “breakdancing with alien,” “building a fortress of candy,” or “riding to school on a brontosaurus” is just what Google may like. The panel of judges includes many creative minds such as Chris Sanders, writer and director of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, and Pendleton Ward, creator of Adventure Time to name but a few.

To participate, young artists (or their parents/guardians) are invited to upload their art pieces online or send it by mail along with entry forms (one doodle per student). The submission period runs through March 22, and on May 1 the judges will shortlist the 50 state winners, and Google will invite public to vote for the best works. On May 22, Google will announce the overall national winner, who will get the major prize. In addition, his or her piece along with artworks of state winners will be on display at the American Museum of Natural History from May 22 to July 14.

The Doodle 4 Google competition is running internationally, but the dates of the contest depend on the market.
