Electrolux Appetite for Excellence was founded by Luke Mangan and Lucy Allon in 2005 and is a national hospitality awards program dedicated to educating and nurturing emerging industry professionals.
The winners were announced in three categories:
Electrolux Young Chef—the winner is Richard Ousby, Quay, Sydney
Electrolux Young Waiter—the winner is James Sexton, Sepia Restaurant & Wine Bar, Sydney
Electrolux Young Restaurateur—the winner is Clint Hillery, Time to Vino, Sydney
The winners receive a unique experience to expand their food and wine skills, learn from some of the world’s best chefs and voyage overseas.
Over the last few months, the 2011 participants have competed to prove their culinary skills, says Inside Cuisine. Creative challenges included mystery box cook offs, customer service tests, food and wine knowledge tests and one-on-one interviews. The young competitors were evaluated by a judge panel comprised of Australia’s leading chefs and hospitality leaders.
The Electrolux Young Chef and Electrolux Young Waiter winners now will represent Australia and compete in the famous San Pellegrino Cooking Cup in Venice. The will also receive $3,000 cash to assist with travel & overseas work experience expenses and an accompanying trophy.
The Electrolux Young Restaurateur winner will attend a sponsored by Sanpellegrino all-expenses-paid trip to London to attend ‘The S.Pellegrino Worlds 50 Best Restaurant Awards’. He will also receive $8,000 cash to be invested in the business under the judges’ guidance.
Electrolux will provide the establishment of all winners with a selection of premium domestic kitchen appliances of their choice to the value of $5,000.
Electrolux is a company that supports creative young talents. Last month it announced the finalists of 2011 Design Lab.
