Facebook Unites Users with Music

After the launch of the Timeline service for all users and providing fans with specific business cards, Facebook is rolling out a new music service that allows users to enjoy their favorite tracks with friends. You can now listen to music together in a group while one of your friends plays DJ.

“Music is one of the most powerful and fun ways to connect. Whether it’s at a concert with a bunch of people or on a long car ride with your best buddy, we love listening to music with our friends. But what if you could listen to music with your friends when you’re alone, like at work, at home or on the go?” says Alexandre Roche, a Product Designer at Facebook in a blog post. It’s written also that while posting it, Roche was listening to ‘Stop Your Hate’ by Maceo Plex.

It’s all about uniting people—now you can share songs with friends in real time, experience it together, so it feels like jamming out at a performance. To start you have to look for the music note in the chat sidebar to see which of your friends are listening to music. Hovering over a friend’s name and clicking the ‘Listen With’ button allows you to start the service.

And, of course, you’ll be able to chat about what you’re listening to.  As other people start listening along, they’ll join the party in a group chat to share their ‘wows’.

The feature was unveiled yesterday and will roll out over the next few weeks globally.
