Google decided to become the unprecedented mail leader and now is calling its Gmail users to help their friends that still have other mail accounts switch to Gmail.
The campaign is called Email intervention and targets those stubborn users that stick to their old mail accounts. It’s clear that only pressure get them to switch.
To do it, Google has created Emailintervention.com, a site where Gmail users can send intervention letters to convince their friends to switch.
The steps are easy. You sign in to your Gmail account. The system detects which of your friends aren’t using Gmail and lets you select which ones you want to invite. Then, you can customize your intervention letter and either include Google’s intervention video or create your own.
Google’s amusing video features Dr. Richard Muscat, an ‘intervention expert’ who explains how you can help your friends from hurting themselves with outdated and embarrassing email addresses.
According to Mashable, Gmail has grown in popularity since its launch in 2004, but Yahoo Mail and Microsoft’s Hotmail still have more users. So, it will take time till Gmail’s growth. With this campaign the search giant intends to literally steal users from its competitors.
In addition, Google continues to run Chrome experiments—last year users were suggested to view and customize individually the online clip from indie rock band Arcade Fire. Now HTML5 test continues with music collaboration between the band OK Go, the dance troupe and choreographers Pilobolus, and Google—you can embed your message in a music video and have the band dance it out. The band and Pilobolus dancers are filmed through a clear floor, making increasingly complex shapes and eventually words. You can write your own messages and it creates a fun and captivating experience.
