Google is unifying users’ entertainment with the launch of Google Play, a cloud-based service which enables users store multiple songs, movies, books and apps online. Now you don’t need to switch from one device to another, synchronize data, use cables or pay for storage space—the company united a range of its services such as Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookstore into one platform called Google Play, launched on March 7. “Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookstore will become part of Google Play. On your Android phone or tablet, we’ll be upgrading the Android Market app to the Google Play Store app over the coming days. Your videos, books and music apps (in countries where they are available) will also be upgraded to Google Play Movies, Google Play Books and Google Play Music apps,” comments Jamie Rosenberg, Director of Digital Content on the Official Google Blog.
According to the post by Jamie Rosenberg, Director of Digital Content on the official Google Blog, The new service allows to store as much as 20,000 songs for free and purchase millions of new tracks online, rent movies (both classic ones, new releases and HD titles), download 450,000+ Android apps and games to enjoy them any time you want, even а you don’t have the app or game downloaded on your device and choose from a rich selection of eBooks. You just get the content via the service and then, by logging in with your Google account, that’s all. Each day next week users will be able to download a different album, book, video rental and Android app at a special price from the ‘7 Days to Play’ sale range. U.S. users are also offered an opportunity to “download collections of hip-hop, rock and country albums for $3.99 all week, detective novels from $2.99, some of our editorial team’s favorite movies from 99 cents, and our favorite apps from 49 cents.”
The Google Play service is now available on select markets only—for example, in the U.S. users can get music, movies, books and Android apps, in the UK they can download just movies, books and Android apps, Australia can access only books and apps, and if you live in Japan Google Play offers you movies and apps. For a range of other countries including Russia, for now Google Play is just a platform selling Android apps. But Google is committed to expanding the service to other countries as well. “Our long-term goal is to roll out as many different types of content as possible to people around the world, and we’ll keep adding new content to keep it fresh,” writes Jamie Rosenberg.
