Google’s Data Liberation Front Presents Takeout

Google Takeout is a newly launched Google program that helps to rip various types of data from Buzz, Circles, Picasa, Contacts, and your Google Profile, and quickly bundles them in a zip file for download. By clicking ‘Data Liberation’ in settings you are given the option to download all of your profile data, stream data, photos.

Takeout was announced the same day Google+ sprung to life. To bring the feature into masses Google created a hilarious video where team of Google engineers, calling itself the Data Liberation Front, tells why and how your data to be released from the restrictive confines of Google’s servers.

It took much time for the Data Liberation group inside Google to make personal data portable, and up until now it’s been an awkward process of going to each Google service separately to get it. With Takeout, all your Google data across its services is available in one place. You can download it and do what you want with it. Downloading it does not erase it from Google’s servers.

Due to Takeout Google now wins in a long-lasting battle with Facebook, which also allows you to download a zip file of your photos, friend lists, messages, and wall posts, but it is not in a format third party sites can use.
