Hewlett-Packard has announced its plans to roll out a large cloud computing service similar to Amazon Web Services within two months. The new service will be more business-oriented features and will not compete with Amazon.

“We’re not just building a cloud for infrastructure,” said Zorawar Singh, senior vice president and general manager of HP’s cloud services. “Amazon has the lead there. We have to build a platform layer, with a lot of third-party services.” Among the first software applications available as part of the Hewlett-Packard cloud, he said, will be both structured and unstructured databases, and data analytics as a service.
The price computing services is not unveiled yet but it’s clear that HP’s cloud will offer more personalized sales and service. The company will also offer a variety of tools for developers as well as tools for customers to easily and remotely manage their documents. There will be an online store for users to offer or rent quality software that can be used in the Hewlett-Packard public cloud, reports The NY Times blog.
HP doesn’t hide its plans to compete with such giants as IBM or Oracle. “We want to make it hard for an IBM or an Oracle or anyone to come in,” Singh said. HP intends to do it providing developers with a lot of tools and offering corporations business-ready software. It will also offer the analytics.
Now, HP’s data centers that support its cloud are located only on the East and West Coasts of the USA, but the company will install small data centers across the globe.
Last year, HP launched a private cloud-based Paul McCartney’s library that contains all his media.
