Lee & Vivienne Westwood: 100 Days of Active Resistance

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee Jeans are encouraging public from around the globe to demonstrate various ways to resist some of the most unpleasant aspects of our world. The brands have teamed up to launch an online project, “100 Days of Active Resistance,” to invite people from different parts of the world to share photos, which mirror the core concept of the initiative—demonstration of the ability to see below the surface, understand what’s going around and face up to problems.

The principle idea of Active Resistance is that you get out of life what you put in, and that real experience of the world involves thinking,” says Vivienne Westwood.

The project was started on September 8, and the display period opened only four days ago, on September 28 to be closed up on January 5. Images are to be submitted with a short description and an inspirational slogan which describes the mood of the artwork. This initiative is not an attempt to change the world, it’s even not an appeal for active actions, but it’s a call to stop for a moment and look at the things from a new perspective.

Each day for one hundred days, they will select one still from those uploaded by users and post it on the site. So far, the gallery features four magnificent stills, touching on the themes of money, past times, active participation and poverty. All the photos selected for the online display will become a part of a London exhibition dedicated to the project, which will be held next year.

It is not enough to follow world politics, see films and read the prize-winning best seller. This is superficial, you need to go deep in order to understand who you are, what the world is and how things could be better. This involves culture which can only be acquired by self-education: human beings should mirror the world,” added Westwood.
