MINI and PUMA have become partners for several years to launch collections of clothing, shoes and accessories fusing iconic styles of the both brands.

The first lines will be available from September 2012 under the label MINI by PUMA. The products will be sold at selected MINI dealerships and the whole range will hit PUMA stores and its retail partners’ stores.

Based on PUMA’s experience in designing sports clothing, the collection is inspired by MINI’s ‘creative use of space’ principle as well as by the UK from where BMW’s automotive brand originates. Some products made of high-quality materials feature British symbols like the Union Jack and bulldogs.

“In PUMA we have found an ideal partner that shares our enthusiasm for a sporty, urban look and lifestyle, has a worldwide presence and, like MINI, appeals to young, open-minded target groups”, says Dr Thomas Goerdt, Director Lifestyle Collections at the BMW Group.

The first MINI by PUMA collection offers sporty unisex bags and accessories, including larger weekend bags, compact handbags and wallets. The inner compartments and zips are designed to make bags super practical and the strap and handle designs reminds of MINI seatbelts. The color of the range is black with neon yellow luggage tags.

Along with the bags, the collaboration will roll out a range of lightweight sneakers, which will include different models of low-cut sneakers and chukka sneakers for both sexes. The shoes will also feature ‘cool Britannia’ design details in black, white and green. The apparel items details are not unveiled yet—it’s only known that MINI by PUMA collection will feature T-shirts and parkas.

MINI has previously partnered with different brands. These included Japanese shoe brand Onitsuka Tiger and sonoro audio, a German manufacturer of design audio products—together the companies produced a special MINI multifunctional internet radio receiver. Collaborations are not always successful but the partnership with PUMA is the most comprehensive license agreement MINI has signed to date and it may turn to be a really successful one.
