Nike has unveiled an animated film, “The Last Game,” as part of its #riskeverything football-centric campaign. The 5-minute spot features animated replicas of football celebrities including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, and Neymar Jr. to name a few, who embark on a mission to save the game from a genius villain, The Scientist, set to destroy football as it is forever by substituting real players with autonomous creatures.
The spot by Wieden + Kennedy and Passion reveals a bad guy, The Scientist, who has been analyzing the core of the game for quite a long time to find the weak points of the best football players, all to avoid these in his artificial robotic footballers. He created the clones, which are “programmed to remove all risk-taking and focus only on efficiency, decision-making and results.” While the game becomes flawless, it lacks the magic and spontaneity that are usually brought in by real players.
The football legend Ronaldo (O Fenómeno), who has retired, returns to save the game by showing the public the real football. He re-assembles the dream-team, The Origials, by rescuing its members from their dull lives and gets back to the pitch to beat The Clones. To inspire the legendary players to join the game, he reminds them of their own hilarious achievements and brightest moments.
«The idea behind ‘The Last Game’ is to show the world that Nike, like any true lover of football, believes that the game should be brilliant, daring and bold. Having the confidence to take risks is absolutely vital in football. Imagine a world without the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo, the acrobatics of Zlatan or the wizardry of Neymar,” commented Nike’s Chief Marketing Officer Davide Grasso. “The final 90 seconds of The Last Game prove, beyond any doubt, that brilliant football should be the only kind of football. Brilliant, creative, risk-taking football. That is what #riskeverything is all about.”
