Nike Goes on Celebrating the Moon Style, Now in Berlin

The running theme has been one of the most explored ones in Nike’s promotional activity. This motif is frequently employed in interior designs of the brand’s flagship retail locations all around the globe. In October, the sport gear brand invited fans of urban running to visit the renovated 1948 store located in the capital of England and see the impressive installation ‘From Moon to Lunar’, which was created as a tribute to the iconic sneakers and the brand’s heritage. This time,  in December 2010, Nike re-imagined the space of its Berlin Stadium keeping loyal to the same ‘cosmic’ style.

The brand has been involved into the ‘urban running movement’ and creating most lightweight shoes for jogging since 1972, when Bill Bowerman and his team presented his great Moon Shoe, inspired by Neil Armstrong’s landing onto the Moon in 1969. This began a Lunar era in the brand’s history, and starting early 70-ies the brand has been releasing new updated versions of running sneakers keeping the first iconic model in mind.

The white-and-grey interior design of Berlin Nike Stadium also features visual references to the London’s store, being turned into a somewhat outer-space venue with installations developed by Berlin-based art director Dirk Bonn and graphic artist Manuel Bürger. They included imaginary from the Jun Takahashi-designed GYAKUSOU project into their visual symphony as well as created limited-edition poster ‘This Is How We Run the Moon’ (only 200 copies, available only on the spot) dedicated to the space exploration.
