Nike: How Will You #makeitcount in 2012?

The time around the first days of January is just perfect for making resolutions for the whole year, and since 2012 promises to be very sportive with the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, a plan for this year should include a bunch of sport related goals. Nike supports both renowned athletes and ordinary people who just like to keep fit and encourages them to make a pledge on Twitter on how they will #makeitcount in the coming 12 months.

The initiative, which was kicked off on January 1, has been joined by such celebrated athletes as track and field athlete Mo Farah, footballers Cristiano Ronaldo, Jack Wilshere and Rio Ferdinand, road racing cyclists Lance Armstrong and Mark Cavendish, and long-distance runner Paula Radcliffe among others. The sport celebrities got featured in a series of web-films, which will appear on the brand’s YouTube channel this month (on the page, the day of January 19 is highlighted, so most probably it’s when the videos will be released). On December 31, Nike unveiled a teaser spot, in which the top British athletes share some tips on how to develop the winning attitude and reach the ultimate goals.

The brand is inviting the audience to join the movement by tweeting their sports resolutions using the #makeitcount hash tag (users can do it from here as well). “Whether your ambition is to run that first marathon or simply do more than you did in 2011, however you choose to #makeitcount, let @NIKE know,” says the brand. Nike’s rival, Reebok, made a similar move last year by launching the ‘Promise Keeper’ application, which helps amateur athletes battle their laziness and reach the sport goals they set. It utilizes quite a traditional tool, massive public disapproval, to motivate the to do what he or she promises.
