Nike Launches ‘Only The Strong’ SS2012 Campaign in Japan and Unveils ‘Space’ Styles in the U.S.

Nike, which always chooses motivating names and slogans for its campaigns and encourages its fans to lead active lives (recently, it launched the #makeitcount movement), is now rolling out a new promotion dubbed ‘Only The Strong’ in Japan. On its official website, the sportswear manufacturer has posted a series of photos, shot in the different areas of Tokyo, as well as a video featuring young males, who are looking at the megalopolis from a roof of a high building. The Nike Japan Spring/Summer 2012 ‘Only The Strong’ campaign features looks and apparel from the new collections (primarily for running), but a user can’t either enlarge an item or proceed to buy it from the page—just images, nothing more.

With the new promotion, the Japanese office of the brand says to urban athletes ‘Be strong. To continue to be the winner.’ The brand has launched a bunch of initiatives in the country, encouraging people to maintain active lifestyle, and one of them was the Ekiden relay race, kicked off more than a year ago to get the nation and the whole world running. In fall 2010, the brand unveiled a performance running collection Gyakusou in cooperation with Japan’s clothing label Undercover, which has recently collaborated with Uniqlo.

In addition to exploring the urban sports theme in Japan, Nike continues to unveil new sneaker styles in the USA—the latest one, which was developed ahead of basketball’s big weekend (NBA All-Star Weekend, February 24-26) in Orlando, is paying tribute to space since central Florida is associated with space exploration. The new collection includes designs which are revolving around “the phenomenon of the Supernova—arguably the most powerful force in the universe—while fonts and badging are featured within the collection as a nod to Orlando and space.” The new collection, which also incorporates the military style, will be available at select retailers and NikeStore.com starting on February 23.
