Nike teamed up with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy Shanghai to make a hilarious gift to the fans of the iconic sportswear brand and comic books. The creative unit collaborated with artist and animator Anthony Francisco Schepperd to make a vibrant graphic novel, which features the celebrated Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang, “more than a flying man,” turned into a super hero of modern times.
The interactive comic book tells about adventures of the renowned athlete, who gets into various situations on one ‘quite typical’ day of his life as he daydreams. The plot of the story and the original script was inspired by a conversation the developers at W+K once had with the athlete. The visitors to the site can flip through the interactive pages, listen to the commentaries of Liu Xiang himself and watch short animated videos integrated into the visual story, which is unfolding to the soundtrack by Lusine of Ghostly International.
The project introduces the new line of the brand, Nike’s Aw77 sportswear range, so the viewers can follow the story and learn more about the newly launched product at the same time. Those, who would like to take some part of this visual world to their computers, can download a vibrant anime-styleв wallpaper featuring the key character of the novel.
