Nokia announced adding a new feature to Nokia Maps. The Heat Maps feature allows users to find the most interesting places in the city easily.
It’s all about the so-called Points of Interest (POI) that are stored on the Ovi Places directory. As explained in Nokia’s official blog, if you want to go out in London for the night, but you’re not sure where the buzz is, or where’s popular. The heat map is an overlay that shows you a darker red color for more popular—or POI dense—places, with the orange and yellow colors representing the less dense places.
In order to prevent having every single POI on the map, Nokia selected some of the premium POIs. The premium POIs are provided from expert services, such as Lonely Planet, WCities and Michelin to name a few, and these bring reviews and some great photos, too.
The POIs are constantly being updated to add more reputable restaurants, bars, sight-seeing spots or shopping outlets.
Since last Tuesday Nokia Maps have acquired a new-look in 3D. There are currently 23 cities that have been turned into 3D models with a plan to create 3D representations of everywhere in the world.
Another Nokia’s highlight is the new N9 cameraphone, the fastest one in the world.
