The Absolut Artists’ Salon: Art is Long, and Time Is Fleeting

Last weekend, Absolut Vodka, probably the most art-inspired alcohol drink of all ages, invited the fans of refined vodka cocktails and art to visit its temporary creative studio space in London to discuss extravagant and somewhat shocking art pieces and meet people, who created them. The Absolut Artists’ Salon on Portland Place was open for two days, October 16-17, inviting everybody interested to come and drink free Absolut cocktails, take part in hourly workshops and get deep into the world of unconventional art, as well join the informal conversation about the industry and the way the participating artists create their unique visual pieces.

The Salon was opened to celebrate the All Visual Arts’ “Vanitas: The Transcience of Earthly Pleasures” exhibition, which was running from October 11-17, and this theme of «Ars longa, vita brevis» became the key one of this Absolut’s space. The event was split into two ‘studios,’ each offering its visitors unique experience. The first one was hosted by artists including Kate MccGwire, Hugo Wilson, Jodie Carey and Reece Jones, all of whom displayed their philosophical works at the “Vanitas” exhibition. During their hourly workshops, they talked about what inspires them to create such spooky pieces, discussed how they do it, and also took the visitors through the exhibit. A team of cutting-edge artists including Arran Gregory, Ann-Marie James and George Morton-Clark from studio two taught the public how to make art with their own hands during the active workshop, where the artists were making their new works.

“Absolut Vodka has always believed that doing things differently leads to something exceptional,” commented Mark Hamilton, Head of Marketing for Vodkas at Pernod Ricard UK on Absolut Artists’ Salon. The participating creative minds perfectly mirror this concept with their style and ability to use quite unexpected items like feathers, bones and concrete or introduce a new way of combining conventional materials in order to create something really striking.
